The historic Job Allard house is on the north side of the intersection of Towle Hill Road and Hampton Lane. An old road leaves Towle Hill Road on the left (west) side of the barn. Follow this old road north 0.2 miles to a log bridge over Stony Brook. Continue north on the old road 0.37 miles until a cellar hole on the left (west) side. The small stone-walled cemetery is 100 yards northeast from the cellar.

Historical Information: George Washington Allen lived near the cemetery by the 1840 census until his death in 1870. He was married to Mary (Young), who was first married to Noah Wilkinson. Mary had five children with Noah, two of whom were living with her in 1850. George and Mary had three more children together: Lydia, Emeline and Noah. Noah died young and is the first known burial in the cemetery in 1845.

In his will, George Allen left his property and belongings to his two daughters, Lydia (who married Henry Austin Atkinson), and Emeline (who married Joseph T. Phillips). Both daughters died in 1887 and are buried elsewhere. Mary lived with her daughter Lydia after George’s death. She died in 1887 and is buried in this cemetery.

Condition (4/25/20): The area around this small stone-walled cemetery was logged approximately eight years ago. It is surrounded by many pine and spruce saplings but they have now been cut from the inside of the cemetery. The top half of George’s stone was leaning against the west wall, but the bottom of his stone and Mary’s were found lying flat under the sod. They were in unnatural locations and broken multiple times, indicating that they were probably run over by logging equipment. The bases for the two stones as well as Mary’s footstone were found. No gravestone for their son Noah was found. The only two grave depressions correspond to George and Mary’s graves. They are located in the northwest corner of the cemetery.
