MOCA Code OxBrf14

Location: 43.91043, -70.98542

From its intersection with Porter Road, drive southwest on Thurston Road for 0.5 miles. The cemetery is in the woods on the right (northwest) side of the road just before a house and garage. Depending on the time of year, granite corner posts can be seen from the road.

Historical Information:

The land around the cemetery was owned by two brothers, Isaac and Joseph Meserve (sons of Benjamin and Hannah (McKenney) Meserve). After the brothers’ deaths, the land was passed down to Joseph’s sons Jonathan E. and William Meserve. The cemetery is never mentioned in the deeds.

Buried here are Isaac and his wife Eliza (Stone). Also buried here are Joseph’s first wife Sarah (Black) and their children Benjamin, Mary J., Joseph M. and Elizabeth (who was the first wife of Ivory Day). Although there are no stones, records show that Joseph and his second wife Abiah (Ela) are also buried here. (There are two fieldstones to the south of Sarah.)

Condition (11/15/22):

This cemetery is in poor condition with only one stone standing. The large stone for Isaac Meserve is leaning against a tree and the rest are sinking face up into the ground. This cemetery is being maintained by a professional landscaper hired by the town.
