A note on this table of Stoneham cemeteries:
-This is a list of all known gravesites, past and present. When historical records list a cemetery as being moved there is a good chance that either a) only the stones were moved, not the graves themselves or b) the movers did not find and move the remains of everyone. Many early graves were marked only with rough fieldstones and wooden crosses, if they were marked at all. This would make a full transfer difficult, especially in the early 1900s. It should be assumed that if a plot of land was once used as a gravesite that some remains are still there.
-Access to many of these cemeteries is over private land. Please respect landowners and ask permission before visiting.
-You may view the locations of these cemeteries on the Google Map on the home page. Research into Stoneham cemeteries is ongoing.
-Much of this information is based on the booklet “Cemeteries of Stoneham, Maine” compiled by Rev Donl. McAllister and updated in 1984 by the NSDAR and MOCA.
