From its intersection with Burnt Meadow Road, drive south on 160 2.3 miles to #679 on the right (west) side of the road. The cemetery is in the woods about 165 feet north of the house. All that remains of this good-sized cemetery are granite posts and many large grave depressions. Many of the graves were moved to Pine Grove and some were moved to Spring Cemetery in Hiram. Others are unaccounted for.
Historical Information:
It appears that the graves in this cemetery were moved possibly in two stages, with the Stuart family around 1915, and the rest after the fire. The site is undeveloped and all of the granite posts still stand. It seems to be a good location for a cemetery.
Old records refer to this cemetery as being on the Roscoe Lord place. When he bought the property in 1911 the cemetery lot was mentioned (Book 103, Page 21).
In the 1911-1912 Brownfield Annual Report, Article 28 was “To see if the town will vote to fence the John Stuart Cemetery, or burial ground, so called, and raise money for the same.” It looks like this article probably failed because on June 29, 1912 John Stewart bought adjoining lots 237 and 238 in Pine Grove Cemetery. On these lots is currently a large Stuart monument with many individual granite grave markers to replace the old headstones that were once at the Stuart Cemetery. At the original cemetery there are a few obviously exhumed graves, which are most likely from the Stuart family.
A couple of the headstones transcribed as being in the Stuart Cemetery were moved to be in family plots in Pine Grove. It appears that an empty lot was purchased at a later time, perhaps in the 1940s or 1950s to place the remaining headstones. (It is doubtful that these graves were properly moved.) Lot 291 is where the children of Stephen and Sally Stuart ended up. Their original gravestones look out of place among all the newer granite monuments. Also indicating that the moving process was less than perfect are the miscellaneous footstones from the Stuart Cemetery in different locations in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Members of the McLucas family were moved to Spring Cemetery in Hiram. The only person the Stuart list not represented anywhere else is Susan Anderson (daughter of Timothy and Elizabeth) who also could have been buried in the pauper section on Pine Grove.
Condition (5/13/18):
Granite posts still mark the perimeter of this cemetery. There are no headstones visible. Most likely some graves still remain, especially since old records indicate there were many graves that did not have headstones.
