Townhouse Cemetery

Tuftonboro, NH

Starting in 2012, Jess Davis was employed by the town of Tuftonboro to restore gravestones in their cemeteries, including this large one near the town hall. One of the first projects was restoring three stones near a driveway that had been hit by a car. The most dramatic stone came in a box.

When a break in a gravestone is too weak to be repaired with epoxy, aluminium channels are used as braces. The stone “floats” in the channels and is not attached to them. In this case, where the break was at ground level, the channels extend into concrete underneath.
